Online craps is a fairly new introduction to the world of gambling, however the origins of the game can be traced all the way back to the crusades. It was originally an old English game known as Hazard, a very complicated version of craps which was a very popular in the 17th and 18th centuries. The next step in the evolution of craps began in New Orleans by a wealthy Louisiana land owner that bought the game over from his travels in England, he was a gambler and politician by the name of Bernard Xavier Philippe de Marigny de Mandeville. Craps or “Crapaud” as the game was then called got its name by describing how the players would crouch over the floor or sidewalk when playing (“crapaud” is the French word for toad). However the game was flawed as it was being exploited by players being allowed to bet with or against the dice thrower.
An American by the name of John H Winn introduced the “don’t pass” betting option which eliminated the problem and was the final step in the evolution of the game we now use to play online craps and casino craps. Another form of the game is street craps which was played by World War 2 soldiers usually using an army blanket as a playing surface. The African-American community play street craps or “shooting dice” which uses exactly the same as rules as online craps except it is played on the street without the use of a backboard.
Although online craps is played on the computer casino craps is played on a table and the online craps layout is exactly the same. Usually covered in green felt, both sides of the table mirror each other but the main feature of the table is a diagram showing which sections are reserved for which bets. Hardways and One roll bets can be made in the centre section of the table, and at the ends of the table you can find the section reserved for betting on the Pass line, Come, Place and Field.
The craps table is controlled by four dealers although online craps is controlled by the computer. The box person is the main dealer whose job it is to oversee the entire game, he is to be found seated in the centre of the table surrounded by piles of chips. He will count the money, settle any disputes and keep a keen eye on all the dealers to make sure all winnings and loses are paid accurately. There are three other dealers at the table who assist the box person. Two known as base dealers stand on the book side of the table, they will be the ones that will keep track of all bets, collect all the losses and pay out all the winners. The fourth and final dealer is known as the stick man, his job is to handle the dice by using the stick to move the dice back to the shooter after every throw. He usually won’t have any other part to play in the game other than occasionally place bets for those players who can’t reach.
Online craps will only be played by one person however the traditional game allows space for up to eight, each person can be the shooter and get the opportunity to roll the dice, two are on the table but you can choose from a selection of five this allows you to choose what you think will be your luckiest combination. An online craps table will be quiet, however the traditional casino table will be noisy and a generally entertaining place to be, with winners and losers all enjoying the game and sharing a joke or two.
